Hello,
I am replacing a Single-Pole Switch / Receptacle. The new switch has 5 screws:
Side 1: green, silver
Side 2: brass, black, black
The outlet box has two beige and one black wire. I connected black to green and beige to brass, black but only light switch works. Beige to black, black has power but no switch. Thanks in advance.

How old is this house/wiring?
Old wiring code did not require grounding... this means you probably have a three-way receptacle instead of a single-pole. One of the beige wires is your neutral, the black is your hot, and the other beige is your three-way connecting wire (can't remember the technical term for that one). Is there another switch on the other side of the room that is also controlling the light?
